About Game-o-Rama

Project 01

Game-o-Rama

Game-o-Rama is a chance for boardgame fans to gather, socialize, see old friends (as well as make new ones) and really stretch out and get in four full days of fun and games. We get a great group of friendly folks who make getting into a game easy. There will also be an extensive selection of the games folks are most interested in playing now, since they went to the trouble of bringing them for play.

"Thanks so much for a great weekend! This was my first game fest of any type like this, and it certainly exceeded my expectations -- especially going in knowing few games & virtually no people beforehand. I met many helpful and patient people (some local), and learned about some new games that would have been difficult to try out otherwise without purchasing and hoping." --Johnathan

Here is a list of past Game-o-Ramas and Atlanta Game Fests

Atlanta Game Fest 31 is May 17-20, 2018, Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta

Atlanta Game Fest 32 is October 25-28, 2018, Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta

Project 02

Schedule of Events

Ongoing
Demo Alley
Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 4pm (hallway outside of main gaming room)

Game designers and publishers, Demo Alley at Game-o-Rama is a chance to show your prototypes, Kickstarter projects and published games to the over 350 gamers we expect to attend. There is no charge for space for members. While games can be demoed at any time, there are three scheduled sessions: Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 4pm. (Main hall)

Game-o-Rama is pleased to announce the world premiere of the Bruno-rama Cathalathon! Play when you want and when whom you want! Whenever you play a Bruno Cathala game bring us the game name, players' names and winner's name. The person who plays the most Bruno Cathala games and the person who wins the most games will each win a prizes. Please note that Bruno Cathala will NOT be at Game-o-Rama (he's allowed, he just isn't expected).

Once again Game-o-Rama will be the Georgia State Championship for Diamonds, The Game of 49, Dimension, Skull King, Nevermore, and Neuroshima Hex! The winners will advance to the Southeast Regional Championship held during the May Atlanta Game Fest. Winners will also receive a free pass to the event. Our thanks to Envoy and Michael Hines who runs the tournaments for us.

Please note: If you are playing in a boardgame tournament, there will be a sign-up area in one of the corners of the room and a sign saying "tournaments" where folks should be at the start time. We might play elsewhere, but report to that area for registration.

*For all Envoy tournaments, if there are at least 8 players, the final table (of 4) will each win a copy of the game. If there are fewer than 8, only the winner gets a copy. The more folks play, the more games are available to win!

Thursday
10am game room opens. It will remain open until 11pm Sunday. Registration is usually at the table closest to the main entrance in the game room. There should be a sign. Games along the wall are available for play. The owner has put their name inside each box, often stamped on the inside of the top lid, and has also made a sign with their name taped to the shelves or table/wall near their games to aid in returning the game. Games on the table are available for play. Games and anything stored under the tables are private property.

Finding people to play with is easy: They come to play with others at these events, so if you see folks milling about feel free to ask if they are looking for a game. There is also a dry-erase board where you can put game requests. Finally, we have "players wanted" and "teachers wanted" signs available. The main point of the event is to get folks into games, so if you need any assistance just ask Ward or anyone handy. We get a great group that makes the event easy and fun.

7pm: Dimension (Demo)
Dimension is a fast-paced, innovative puzzle game that takes place in three dimensions with 60 colorful spheres. All of the players play at the same time. Everybody tries to position the spheres on their trays to earn as many points as possible. The task cards indicate how the spheres must be placed to earn points. Complete these tasks while racing against the timer. You get a point for each sphere you use and a bonus token for using all five colors, but you lose two points for each task card you don’t follow correctly. Prove to your opponents that you are the master of multi-dimensional thinking!

7:30pm: Dimension tournament Georgia State Championship. The final 4 players win copies of the game*. The winner advances to the May Southern Regional Championship at the May Atlanta Game Fest, (including a free membership). The winner of the Southern Regional Championship gets a free admission to GenCon, entry in their quarter-final and access to a roomshare with up to 3 other people. Presented by Envoy and Thames & Kosmos. (registration)

Friday
10:30am: Robo Rally (cube) Six Robo Rally boards are assembled into a "cube" so the board has no edges. The game usually lasts about 2 hours. There will be a sign-up sheet at registration. Hosted by Leon Hendee. (Meet at registration)

10am: Skull King (Demo) Learn the game before the tournament! Brent Beck's Skull King is a trick-taking game similar to Oh Hell!, Wizard and Spades, with players needing to state how many tricks they think they'll win each round. Pirates and other special cards add to the strategy. (registration)

10:30am: Skull King tournament Georgia State Championship. The winner will receive a seat at the Southern Regional Championship at the May Atlanta Game Fest, (including a free membership). The final 4 players win copies of the game.* The winner of the May Southern Regional Championship gets a free admission to GenCon, entry in their quarter-final and access to a roomshare with up to 3 other people. Presented by Grandpa Beck's Games. (registration)

1:30pm: Game of 49 (Demo) Learn the game before the tournament! Starting with $49 apiece, players in The Game of 49 bid to buy spaces on the 49-square (7-by-7) game board. Randomly drawn number cards are auctioned one at a time, with the highest bidder placing a chip on the matching board space. Wild/Payoff cards give players a choice of where to place their chip and also award cash to all players for their chips on the board: $7 per chip, with a payoff maximum of $49. The first player to claim four spaces in a row, in any direction, wins. (registration)

2pm: Game of 49 tournament
Georgia State Championship. Presented by Envoy and Breaking Games. (registration)

7pm: The Artifact. It supports 3-8 players, adults only. Game lasts 3-4 hours. Hosted by Frank Branham. (sign up and meet at registration)

The Artifact is a space opera using the The ArtifactLast Frontier: The Vesuvius Incident The Artifact game system (published by Fat Messiah Games). Three to eight players take over such roles as the Mad Scientist, the Space Pirate Captain, the Phone Company, or a mystery Alien. Because the format is four way blind, and the players are uncertain of each other's motives, the fog of war is a formidable obstacle in this new gaming genre.

The action takes place on a space warehouse at the edge of an un-navigable region of the Galaxy known as the Coal Sack. The mad scientist in charge of the facility is trying to sell the Artifact, an alien navigational buoy, to space pirates. The scientist wins if he completes the deal while keeping his illegal activities secret from the Phone Company, who has a couple of agents on board the station somewhere.

Victory for the Phone Company depends upon who their secret employers are. His agents may be just innocent employees here to fix the phone lines, they may be working for a rival Museum, or they may work for the Government or private agencies.

The Pirate Captain's motives are more transparent; he needs to get the Artifact by trade, artifice, or force. Even with his overwhelming firepower, this is not easy. One of his men may be a government informant. The Artifact may not be all it seems. Loss of contact with his men may mean they have turned against him, or alien bugs have laid eggs on their disemboweled remains. A clank outside may signal imminent explosive decompression, or just a sailmaker robot on the outside hull doing its job.

Aliens may or may not be on board; their nature is unknown. The ship's computer may or may not be a sentient character working with its own victory conditions. One's partner may be a trusted companion or a shapeshifting fiend in disguise. The ship's security system, robots, and self-destruct countdown may be puppets for unknown agencies.

The Artifact is a gripping drama, full of surprises and mayhem. No two games are alike, full of sabotage, sneak suits, bluster, kamikaze aliens, EMP and plasma guns, booby traps, hacking, and the prospect of the space station being blown up bit by bit by pirate cannon. The action never falters until the last lifeboat is away, the final alias revealed, and the last storeroom explored. Another session can be added Saturday if needed.

10pm Werewolf! (far end of main hall)
David Satterfield will again be hosting this popular Game Fest tradition.

Saturday
10am: Nerdy Jewelry Workshop! Come explore fun options for being crafty, stylish and geeky at the same time! Hillary will have supplies and lessons prepared for a few different nerdy jewelry workshops and will let the group decide which one they would like to do. All tools and supplies will be provided. No experience or artistic ability necessary. Ages 12+ welcome. Hosted by Hillary Wilson (who will also have a selection of her own pieces for sale at the event). (meet at registration)

10am: Nevermore (Demo) This game from Smirk & Dagger is a casual-style, card-drafting game in which you quickly build your hand each round, collecting cards you want and poisoning your opponent's hand by passing along cards you think they can't use. Whoever holds the most of a given suit, gains the power of that suit to attack, heal, acquire Light or Shadow magicks and score victory points. Will you transform all your rivals into ravens - or can they regain their human form in time to score enough victory to win? Learn the game before the tournament! (registration)

10:30am: Nevermore tournament
Georgia State Championship. Presented by Envoy and Smirk & Dagger. (registration)

10:30am: Robo Rally (cube) Six Robo Rally boards are assembled into a "cube" so the board has no edges. This has been a popular feature at Atlanta Game Fest and we will have two sessions, Friday and Saturday at 11am at Game-o-Rama. The game usually lasts about 2 hours. There will be a sign-up sheet at registration. Hosted by Leon Hendee. (registration)

1:45pm set-up for Flea Market (far end of main hall)
2-3pm Flea Market

The flea market is a great chance for folks to clear out some shelf space and get those unplayed games back into circulation. Remember, an unplayed game is an unhappy game. The flea market is free for all members; however, dealers may not sell new games at the flea market.

3:30 Neuroshima Hex! (Demo)
Learn the game before the tournament! Neuroshima Hex! is a strategy game set in the post-apocalyptic world of Neuroshima, a Polish role-playing game. Each player leads one of four armies: Borgo, Hegemonia (Hegemony), Moloch, and Posterunek (Outpost). Each army deck consists of 34 tiles: soldiers, support tiles, and special actions. You win when all enemy headquarters are destroyed or when your headquarters is the least damaged at the end of the game. The winner of this tournament will get a trophy, a copy of the game, plus a seat at the final round of the Southeast Regional Championship at Atlanta Game Fest 2018 (as well as a free badge to Atlanta Game Fest 2018)!

4pm: Neuroshima Hex! tournament
Georgia State Championship. Presented by Envoy and Portal Games. (registration)

10pm: Werewolf
Players can sign up in advance. If there is interest we can run a second evening session. Thanks to David Satterfield for hosting. Games available include Bezier Games' Ultimate Werewolf, One Night and Daybreak. (back of main hallway)

Sunday,
10:30am: Diamonds (Demo)
Learn the game before the tournament! This Stronghold game by Mike Fitzgerald is a trick-taking card game in which players collect Diamonds - not cards bearing that suit, mind you, but rather actual "Diamond Crystals". What makes the game of Diamonds different from other trick-taking card games is that when you cannot follow suit you get a "Suit Action" based on what suit you do play. Suit Actions are also taken by the winner of each trick, as well as at the end of a full Round of play. Whoever has the most points in Diamond Crystals at the end of the game wins! (registration)

11am: Diamonds tournament
Georgia State Championship. Presented by Envoy and Stronghold. (registration)

11pm main room closes.

Unfortunately, due to space limitations, Game-o-Rama will no longer be able to feature a separate programming track for RPGs. We hope to have a few roleplaying opportunities for the board game players in attendance, but the event will be mostly boardgaming and there will be no dedicated space available for just roleplaying.
